About Our Rooflights And Their Suitability

The rooflight world is a complex one covering everything from a simple standard size polycarbonate rooflight to automatically opening power operated smoke vents fully integrated into a buildings fire systems. Even the terminology can be a bit confusing; do you need a skylight, a sky light, a roof light or a rooflight? In fact roof lights and sky lights (or rooflights and skylights if you prefer) are all different terms for the same thing. There is a rooflight for every possible situation where natural daylight is required in a building. Round rooflights are just as available, rectangular skylights are very popular and almost any shape in sky light can be made, if you can imagine it we can probable supply it.  Domes, pyramids, trapezoids  and even octagons have all been successful fitted and these more unusual shapes can add some real character to a building. Colour adds further options with both the kerbs and the roof light itself available in several shades.

Rooflights for commercial applications tend to be specified to different priorities compared to a domestic roof light or skylight. For example if you have a flat roof on a property which you would like to use as a balcony or sunbathing area your priorities might be durability and safety. In these cases you can specify a glass rooflight with toughened glass which is perfectly safe to walk on. This glass skylight will allow natural light into the room below whilst acting as a safe flooring solution!

On the other hand you may have a large commercial building and require many rooflights to allow natural light in saving energy otherwise wasted on lighting. In these high volume situations the standard polycarbonate roof light dome is the traditional skylight solution. Easy to fit, low in cost and available from stock the polycarbonate skylight is the most often seen rooflight in the UK.
