Ventilation and Kerb Options

Skylight and Roof Light Kerb Options

The National Domelight Company offers a very wide range of polycarbonate rooflights suitable for nearly all applications and building types. All the rooflights are individually manufactured to order and so are effectively bespoke products offering the widest possible flexibility. To help designers build up specifications to suit their needs, products are categorised as Stardome Mark 1 to Mark 5. The ranges are defined by thermal performance and are summarised below, with ventilation options shown below the kerb options.

To jump to a specific part of the page, use the links below, otherwise scroll down to see the complete range of rooflight kerbs and the ventilation options. Please note that the images below show various options that need to be specified (i.e. ventilation) and therefore should be used for guidance only.

Mark 1:

Stardome Mark 1 Kerb

The latest range of Stardome rooflights have an exceptionally low U value of 1.3 W/m²K, and some of its key features are listed below:

  1. Triple skin polycarbonate top supplied as standard.
  2. Delivered fully assembled or with glazing/vent detached.
  3. A unique rotary action vent controller.
  4. Insect mesh.
  5. Integral water management system.
  6. Fully thermally-broken white PVCu.
  7. Weather bar.
  8. Cellular construction.
  9. Flexible metal foot termination.

Mark 2:

Stardome Mark 2 Kerb

This range of rooflight kerbs has a U value of 1.8 W/m²K using an all thermoplastic construction for outstanding thermal efficiency, high resistance to weathering and low maintenance. The Mark 2 is formed from enhanced UV protected polycarbonate with vented airspaces. The integral cascade water management system ensures that moisture drains to the outside of the building and air leakage meets Part L criteria.

Key features include:

  • Aluminium trim and extruded gasket sections.
  • Steel security insert housed within the PVCu section.
  • Available with various ventilation options (see further down this page).

A 2mm wall thickness ensures weld strength and a weather seal on all opening rooflights maintains weather-tightness. A special 'key' finish to the PVCu kerb assists the adhesion of a membrane and the PVCu kerb is also torch-on system friendly. The security frame is also available as an option.

This kerb is now also available in a vertical option to maximise daylight.

Mark 3:

Stardome Mark 3 kerb

This thermally broken metal system offers considerable flexibility whilst complying with maximum allowable (under Part L) U value of 2.2 W/m²K. Frames and kerbs are finished in white as standard but coloured kerbs are also available. The integral cascade water management system ensures that moisture drains to the outside of the building and air leakage meets Part L criteria. The security frame is also available as an option.

Mark 4:

Stardome Mark 4 kerb

This GRP kerbed system is designed for circular rooflights whilst also complying with the maximum allowable (under Part L) U value of 2.2 W/m²K. Rooflights are triple skinned as standard with enhanced UV protected polycarbonate and vented airspaces, and air leakage meets Part L criteria.

Mark 5:

Stardome Mark 5 kerb

This metal system offers considerable flexibility for unheated areas where thermal insulation is not an important criteria. Frames and kerbs are finished in white as standard but coloured kerbs are also available. Mark 5 rooflights can be square, rectangular or circular in shape and single glazed as standard with enhanced UV protected polycarbonate. The security frame is also available as an option and multiple skin options are available upon request.

Ventilation options for Skylights and Rooflights

Stardome rooflights can incorporate a range of ventilation and access systems. The options are detailed below, however please note that not all ventilation options are available on every type of kerb and the images below are to be used for guidance only.

Stardome unventilated kerb

Stardome hit and miss ventilation

Often referred to as a 'fixed' rooflight, ideal for
situations where ventilation os not required.
NOTE: Before specifying this option it is
advised to check that the ventilation required
by AD Part 'L' & AD Part 'F' for the room below
is provided by other means, thus ensuring the
risk of condensation is minimised.

Provides minimal background ventilation.

Stardome rotary ventilation

Stardome controlled louvre ventilation

A unique rotary action vent controller offers
variable ventilation, distinctive internal appearance,
smooth and silent operation and prevents
'in-blown' roof debris and water ingress.

Louvre inset into the side wall of the unit.
This can be manually operated to provide
anything from 'trickle' to full on'.

Stardome worm gear ventilation

Stardome linear motor ventilation

The whole rooflight top hinges open via a
manual operated hooked rod to allow ventilation
through the open ventilated area.

The whole rooflight top hinges open via an
electric linear actuator to allow ventilation
through the open ventilated area.

Stardome permanent ventilation

Provides continual ventilation.

Access Hatch

Stardome access hatch Manually operable access hatches are available in a selection of sizes using either gas assisted struts or restriction stays to support the open top. They open up to approximately 90 degrees and are available with either the Mark 2 or Mark 3 kerb.
